Rainy Lake, Canada
|
Bass fish on the Minnesota, Ontario Border
Camp Narrows Lodge, on the North Arm of Rainy Lake, is located just north of the Minnesota, Ontario border. We are 25 miles north of International Fall, Minnesota, and Fort Frances, Ontario. We are also 1 hour east of Lake of the Woods. Northwest Bay, on Rainy Lake is 20 miles north of the border and 15 mile north west of Red Gut Bay. Our resort is a boat-in which brings you minutes away from the best smallmouth fishing. Ontario Bass fishing on Rainy Lake is some of the best in Northern Ontario, if not North America. The structure of the north arm of Rainy Lake is ideal for smallie fishing. There are hundreds of islands with baseball to basketball sized boulder shoals and reefs coming off of them. Large areas of cabbage and pencil weeds grow along side these shoals and reefs creating unbeatable habitat. Crayfish, bait fish of all kinds, and especially smelts are the main forage. If you wish, our Rainy Lake guide service can show you the area's and structure of the lake and help you with techniques to catch these awesome trophy smallmouth bass. If you prefer to fish on your own, we have navigational Rainy Lake maps and are very willing to mark the hotspots. Casting, trolling and even fly fishing for bass are all very effective ways to fish Rainy Lake. Ontario smallmouth bass fishing on Rainy Lake is truly an avid fisherman's outdoor adventure.
Spring Bass Fishing in Ontario
Spring fishing (pre-spawn) in May and early June is done off of any point or reefs with some sandier areas in behind. The smallmouth bass congregate in water around 14' -18' deep, waiting for the water temperature to warm up. This is the time when tube jigs and grubs work the best. Plastics can also be thrown to the shores. When the ice goes off the lake, the smallies move up into the very shallow water and start to feed. Slow moving plastics thrown shallow and retrieving slowly back is productive. During the first couple of weeks in June, the spawn is on. We prefer you do not target bedding areas. Fishing on the outer edges or points adjacent to these areas will pay off. Fish Must be released very quickly.
Summer Rainy Lake smallmouth Bass fishing
During the summer months, the fish are found in many areas of the lake. Some school up and chase the smelts in the deep water's away from the structure. Other's can be found in the huge cabbage beds in shallower water. Depending on the weather of the day and evening, top water bites are awesome. Windier days weightless plastics or weighted tubes or grubs can be thrown towards the wavy points or banks. Jigging in deeper water, trolling, fly-fishing, crank baits, etc can all be used. Just ask us, we will be sure to tell you what is working at the time. All the guests' discuss their techniques with each other. We combine all of our efforts to make sure everyone is catching fish.
Fall Fishing on Rainy Lake Can't be Beat
Fall fishing on Rainy Lake, probably the best of the year, is done on the sunken humps and rocky deeper points. This is when Rainy Lake fishing really begins to shine. The smallmouth school up in the hundreds. This is also the time of year when you really know what "fish eating smelts" is all about. The belly's on the fish are unbelievable. Weights in the 3 - 5 lb range are everywhere. The 5 to even 7 lbers are also fairly common. Nineteen inch fish on Rainy Lake are now in the 4 - 4.5 lb range. The smelts put some huge bellies on these fish. Once again, we can point out some great spots and we can help you with the techniques you will need to fish for some of these great Ontario Smallmouth bass.
Add an Ontario Whitetail deer, bear, duck, grouse or goose hunt to your Fall Fishing Adventure
During the fall you can also add a whitetail deer hunt, bear, duck, grouse, or goose hunt to you fall fishing package. We are located right on the northern Ontario migration route for waterfowl. Our area of Northern Ontario, the Rainy River district, is also a prime area for deer hunting. Trophy whitetail hunts can be added to any of our fishing trips. We welcome you to come and experience some premium Ontario bass fishing. We have combined over 35 years of our own fishing experiences with techniques we picked up from our many guests from all over the States and Canada. We encourage all of our new guests to come and talk to us or to have a chat with any of the guests in Camp. This way we ensure everyone is catching fish.
